My students are what make my job so amazing! The smiles on their faces when they achieve a goal are unparalleled. Everyday tasks that we may take for granted such as getting ourselves up and out of bed, eating a meal, or taking a walk are not that simple for my students. Many are challenged by significant orthopedic impairments, speech and language disorders, and cognitive delays that inhibit these daily activities. However, you'd never know it! My students are some of the most motivated and determined individuals who never fail to amaze me. Their commitment to their education and extra-curricular activities is evident each and every day. The best part of my job is when the students let me in and shoe me their individual personalities - never ending sass, great sense of humor, or ability to pull off a prank, or keep a secret. Several of my students benefit from eye gaze activated communication devices or navigate a high level low-tech communication book.
My Project
By donating to my project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
These materials will allow my students the opportunity to create their own items to help them communicate both at school and while completing their education virtually.
These are uncharted times and this project would provide each of my students a unique way to access their curriculum, provide a calming mechanism to support them, and light tasks to engage them to improve their eye gaze and communicative intents.
I am looking forward help to improve my students' understanding of and competency in authentic, meaningful communication.
