In my eyes, my swim team is filled with amazing kids. They work hard in the pool and in the classroom from September to early February. However, due to limited finances at our high school, they are always at a disadvantage when it comes to competing against larger schools with unlimited resources. My kids do not have full-time access to a practice pool and can only practice 2 times per week through most of their season. We have to rely on the use of our outdoor city pool during warmer months and the pool of a local University, 20 minutes away during colder months. Being a smaller program and having a limited budget we aren’t able to reward them with some of the nice equipment that would be provided to them at a larger school. These kids deserve those rewards. Even though these kids are always at a disadvantage to bigger schools they come out every year ready to work and give it all they have. Even with these disadvantages they just finished winning their 11th straight district championship. Due to THEIR success and hardwork, our program continues to grow but our budget does not.
My Project
We are looking to purchase new training equipment for our team. Included in the equipment are new swim fins. These fins are designed to help our swimmers learn how to develop a better, much stronger kick. These fins are also important to help with overall conditioning in the pool. We are also looking at purchasing a plyo box. This box will also help us develop stronger leg strength which will in turn help our team swim faster and help them achieve all of their goals this swim season and beyond.
