My students need various percussion instruments (claves, shakers, djembes, buffalo drums, guiro, rhythm sticks, and a wood block) to develop a strong sense of rhythm.
Think back to your first performance of any kind. Was it at church, the school talent show, on the football field or baseball diamond? The students at this school in southern Ohio have an excellent opportunity to begin performing with the creation of a new music program!
These instruments will be benefiting all students K-8 (What an excellent investment!) The kids are extremely excited about making music, but we are limited due to our lack of equipment.
These students are always excited to come to class and are catching on quickly to what we are learning; however, what they are lacking is being able to physically make music with various instruments. This project will go a long way in helping them learn about different instruments, cultures, and music styles.
My Project
Students will be able to learn about various cultures and the instruments from those cultures by playing them. They will be able to learn and understand the material at a higher level because it involves doing and not just listening to the teacher talk and seeing pictures. With the instruments provided (Claves, Agogo Bells, Djembes, Guiro, Shakers, and Buffalo Drums), students will be able to experience first hand instruments of different cultures. They will be able to perform multiple rhythmic songs, compose and arrange their own musical works, and perform works of other students. Students learn much more when they actually participate in a project. These instruments will go a long way and continue to impact students for years to come.
Many of the students have expressed a desire to play instruments.
Nearly every day at least one student asks "When will we be able to play instruments?" I am waiting on a purchase order through the school for the higher priced items, but I am relying on donors like you to help these students get a head start! I purchased a set of BoomWhackers, and the kids' faces lit up when we got them out. I know they will appreciate your generous gift, and it will most certainly benefit them a great deal!
