My Students
My students come from diverse backgrounds. They have high expectations for themselves, and I hold them to high standards that they are eager to meet. They do not let the fact that we are in a low-income district and facing many challenges due to budget cuts and low funding stop them from achieving their goals. Our elementary school is a Title I, low-income school. We teach about 600 students in grades pre-kindergarten through 4th grade. Our school has a wonderful and loving climate and we strive to encourage and support our students in every way possible.
My Project
These books will be used to enhance the Language Arts instruction in our classroom. I will read purposefully-selected picture books to my students each week. They will be actively engaged in listening to and discussing each text throughout the read-aloud. Before, during, and after the read-aloud, I will guide book conversations through thought provoking discussion questions. With these read-aloud books, my student's learning process will continue through targeting specific skills and standards as they interact with this text all week. Through these books, we will focus on deepening comprehension, developing and expanding vocabulary, and integrating language skills.
