"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember, Involve me and I learn." - Benjamin Franklin
I love this quote! In my classroom, we learn by being active participants. What better way to teach young children about healthy foods and nutrition than to let them join in!
My school is nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
We are a small, public school with very little outside funding. At my school we are a family, teachers and students alike. We often spend much of our own money to supplement our classrooms and make sure we are giving our students every tool and advantage available.
My students are creative, energetic, diverse and excited to learn new things!
My Project
I want to introduce them to the world of REAL food and nutrition while allowing them the opportunity to be creative, develop practical skills and collaborate with their peers, local farmers and chefs.
My students could use the donated resources (aprons & food) to help increase their awareness of nutrition concepts, food and cooking skills. They'll be able to use the interactive resources during the nutrition lessons to better understand and visualize different types of food and food groups. They'll also be able to build off the lessons and use these resources during learning centers to develop practical skills and deepen their understanding.
Having these resources will help educate the students by providing them with hands-on learning tools to help further excite and educate them about healthy food.
I want to impact student's awareness of nutrition and healthy food choices by getting them excited, curious and interested about food. What makes you more excited to learn about food, then seeing it, feeling it, touching it and playing with it. What makes you more excited to learn to cook is to dress like a chef!
