My Students
First grade is a wonderful grade to teach. My students have a range of literacy abilities. Some are reading beyond their grade level, while some are just mastering their letters and sounds. Many of my students do not have access to books at home or have a library card. One thing they all have in common is they all love to learn and are excited to learn new things each day. Reading books is one way that my students have access to experiences that they may not otherwise have.
My Project
As a reading and language arts teacher I strive to create a love for reading and writing in my students. One aspect of instilling this love is to provide a warm and inviting place to read and enjoy books. Students will be able to sit on comfortable, bright and colorful pillows and rug while enjoying a good book.
My students also need access to current, high-quality, engaging literature from a variety of genres.
Many of my students come to 1st grade reading below grade level. Students can improve in reading by reading more. With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that interests them.
