Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are faced with several challenges daily both inside and outside of the classroom because they come from low-income/high poverty homes. School is a place of stability and safety for many of my students as many are living in very chaotic situations.
Access to quality books is one challenge my students have.
There are so many amazing adventures waiting to be had by my students while they also increase their reading ability. I want to provide opportunities for them to experience meaningful learning with the use of an organized and easy-to-use classroom library. Students are our future. I want them to have the knowledge and chances to experience many books to better their future success.
I cannot control their home lives; however, I can certainly influence their learning experience during the school day. My students are thinkers and questioners, and I am hopeful to inspire them to continue down this educational path of success.
My Project
Learning does not have to be boring or just worksheets all the time. The instructional games that I am asking for will provide independent practice for my students during workshop time that is meaningful and engaging. I am hoping to gather some skills-based games with these resources. I want to give my students essential skill practice to prepare them for future reading. The resources that I am asking for are whisper phones to help promote students to read out loud so they can understand what they are reading.
I want to make our classroom library easy to access for all students.
If we have a classroom library that is easily organized and accessible for every learner, students will be more likely to take the time to find a book that is at their reading level or piques their interest. To help organize our library, I am in need of plastic book storage bins that can be labeled for easy access. It can be intimidating when you just see rows of unorganized books. Please help me get my students reading!
