My Students
My students are discovering a love for reading. They are disappearing into their stories, poetry, and nonfiction selections more every day.
Their pleas for five more minutes at the end of our reading time brings a smile to my face and tells me we are on the right track. I've watched many reluctant readers find a book that clicks with who they are and what they love. I've watched my bookworms branch out into genres they may never have considered.
My goal is not only to let them take the lead in their reading lives but to also help them discover their potential that can stay locked up inside.
My Project
Without a specific school library, my students rely on my classroom library to be full of titles that will fly off the shelves. I allow my students to select their own novels for independent study. I've found that when students find their own reading material they are more likely to develop a love of reading and to keep that going throughout their life.
If I can provide my learners with modern novels, they are more likely to develop their passions and find characters they will identify with. When students discover that one work that speaks to them, they are more likely to connect with the books and then their studies and schoolwork.
