This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
What would you have given to realize that you are not alone in the world? Many of my students are struggling through life's predicaments and want to not feel like they are not the only one in the world.
My diverse population of urban students come from a variety of family and personal situations.
They attend an urban technical high school that provides great school-to-work job training in trade and technical studies. Students in my classes are either in 9th or 12th grade English.
My Project
My students need 30 engaging books to draw students into reading and help them to make connections to their own lives. All of the books in this project deal with problems and life circumstances that are relevant to today's teens, my students. To broaden their horizons, I have included non-fiction books. Although there are resources available to help students cope with the many challenges they face, these books will give students a chance to read a book and not feel so alone in the world. Please give my students a chance to grow through reading and develop into a healthy member of society.
I want students to love reading, so that they become life-long readers.
By having high-interest books readily available in the classroom, students will be encouraged to read.
With your help, students will no longer be able to use "You don't have any good books" as an excuse to not read! This books will contribute to my goal of making avid readers out of my students.
