This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Have you ever been to the library and had a hard time finding a book you are interested in and is on your level? My students need a classroom library they can go to find "just right" books they are excited to read!
Our school population is made of 95-98% free/reduced lunch students from working class families.
Our school is part of the city system but relatively small compared to neighboring schools. My students come with few experiences in reading prior to formal education. They have made tremendous progress in reading the past two years and have advanced well past normal 2nd grade levels.
My Project
Students in my classroom need these upper-elementary leveled readers to continue their growth as readers. With this classroom library, they will be able to select high interest, on level books to use during independent reading and buddy reading times! My students have a love of reading and learning and I want to be able to extend that this year! These leveled readers will aid me in doing so!
Not only will this year's students be able to enjoy this library, but so will future classes!
A well-stocked classroom library is key in building and maintaining a high level of interest and love in choosing and reading "just right" books! This project will help me build life-long readers!
