Mrs. Thorne from Washington DC is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need Spanish books for our class library. I would love to be able to use "Sarah, Sencilla y Alta" and "Quien Fue Harriet Tubman" during our close reading lessons.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

We are located in the District of Columbia. We are a Title 1 school, serving a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic student population. Students at my school feel valued by the work we do around identity, respect, and tolerance of all people. My students are part of our dual-language program where they receive instruction in English and in Spanish. In my class, in particular, students are learning math and literacy concepts in Spanish! However, it is challenging trying to encourage students to build their Spanish literacy skills because there is a very limited amount of Spanish book titles in my classroom and school building.
Despite our challenges, our motto is "Good better best, never let it rest, until our good gets better and our better gets best!"
As mentioned previously, the students that I serve receive daily literacy instruction in English and in Spanish and need more access to Spanish book titles in our class library. Currently, in order for students to have access to Spanish book titles during my close reading lessons, I have to make multiple copies of one book or have two or more students share a book during class.
Although students enjoy exploring literacy concepts in Spanish, I have a very limited amount of Spanish book titles for students to explore during whole class instruction and during independent reading time.
Having Spanish book titles available for my students will encourage them to continue to build their Spanish literacy skills in and outside of my classroom.
