My students need a printing press and printing materials to create a colonial printing unit in the classroom.

My Students

I teach fifth grade at suburban school in Oklahoma. My students come from various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. They are a diverse and unique bunch. Each day we strive to do the very best we can. We are a Title 1 school and a large percentage of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch.

Our school is a learning community.

We try to meet the needs of every students and challenge them to set and reach goals each and every day.

My Project

My students all learn that Benjamin Franklin was a famous printer in Philadelphia. They learn that newspapers and other print-media played a roll in the American Revolution. However, most of them have no idea how the printing process works.

My project will bring an actual printing press into the classroom.

They will get to experience printing through hands-on and engaging activities. They will even get to print, and take home their very own Declaration of Independence. Additionally, we will incorporate the writing process by creating and printing their own colonial newspapers and newspaper articles.

This project will bring another dimension to their learning process that is unique and engaging.
