I teach 32 5th grade students in Queens, New York. My students work hard every single day to meet their full potential. They have of love of learning that is contagious and are not afraid to make mistakes and to learn and grow from them.
Many of my English Language Learners have a passion for Computer Science as many have expressed interest in having a future career in this area.
Being able to incorporate Computer Science activities would continue to promote and foster their inquisitive nature.
My Project
I am hoping to expose all my students to the fundamentals of Computer Science through plugged and unplugged activities. According to the National Center for Women & Information Technology, a student's " ability to innovate with technology is also important for students' future success and ability to make a difference in a global society."
I want to show my students, no matter gender or race, that Computer Science is accessible for all and can open doors in their learning and beyond.
Code.org offers many opportunities for students to plug in using Dash and Botley, "robots" used to program codes. Computer Science can easily be adapted within all content areas.
