Mrs. Hardy from Spartanburg SC is requesting Technology through DonorsChoose, the #1 classroom funding site for teachers.

Let's Get Plugged In!!

My Students

My students have been given the amazing opportunity to be first generation users of technology in the classroom. However, once they step outside the school, use of this technology becomes limited do to the lack of support, tools, and/or accessories needed to use their technology effectively.

The students that I serve are unbelievably smart, creative, and full of untapped potential.

They are driven with passion, desire, and a sense of right and wrong. My desires, as I cultivate their growth, are to help them see a glimpse of that potential and with gentle prodding, guide those passions and desires in the direction that would help them become successful members of our society. If I can get them to believe in themselves, then I have succeeded as their educator. Our school is an inner city, high poverty, Title I school with most of the students on free/reduced lunch and the majority of the Special Ed. students from our district. We also have a boys and girls club that many of our students attend after school.

My Project

Our district is participating in a technology initiative in that every middle and high school student has been issued a MacBook Air. Students try their best to come to school with their books fully charged. Unfortunately, our students encounter difficulties at home or in the community that prevent this from occurring. My goal is for our students to not be limited in charging their books in our classroom. I would like to provide them charging stations so that they can use their devices effectively. As part of our intervention program, we use some web based resources that include sound. As my students have a high poverty rate, they aren't able to afford the headphones needed to successfully use the programs to supplement weak skills. As we encourage the successful use of their MacBooks and the tools on them, our students create diverse presentations to be shared with the class. The usb hub would allow for them to connect with other digital tools seamlessly.

One of the consistent struggles our students face is that they come to school with their MacBooks with low or no charge.

Having the power strips set up strategically around the room would eliminate their frustration of not being able to use their technology. This would impact 95 students immediately this year as well as future students . The use of earbuds will eliminate distractions and improve learning individual learning.
