I teach in a rural middle school with a population of at least 500 students. The student population is from various ethnic backgrounds, moderate retention rate, single family homes, low income, and is mostly a farming community. A large number of the students recieve free or reduced lunch.
I teach 6th, 7th, and 8th grade health and physical education. The average class size is 32 students but I have classes that have over 40 students. The classes are co ed, with all different skill levels, medical conditions, and body compostions.
Teaching large physical education classes and including all the students in the days activity can be very difficult. Physical education equipement is expensive and my program is underfunded. It is also hard to find activities that are able include each child. The Fitness Skillastics is a non competitve "board" game that is designed to include the whole class, no matter what the size. The program is set up in a board game manner. Students can be grouped how ever the teacher deems neccessary, may it be skill level, sex, letters of the alphabet, etc. Because the groups are all involved in the same activity but different activities with in the game, no one is starring, pointing out, or making fun of anyone! Along with enabling everyone to participate, this eliminates a large problem in class!!
All that is needed is the Fitness Xtreme Skillastic game. Everything that is needed for a fun, energetic class is in the bag! The class will enable the students to "get physical" in physcial education class without any worries or exclusion. With the rate of childhood obesity and health problems on the rise, my goal is to have every child involved in physical fitness during my class. This program elimates the need for extra equipement, space, or materials. Hopefully my class will influence my students to become more physically fit and live healthier lives.
You will make it possible for everyone student, no matter the class size, to be invovled in physical education class. There will be no more sitting around, waiting turns, and not being involved! This is every physical education teachers dream!! By helping my class "get physical" you will be helping today's youth have healthier tomorrows.
