Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class is an amazing bunch! We come to school ready to learn even though our lives at home may not be what the average child experiences. We are located in a large urban city. There is high poverty in our neighborhood. Many of us come to school with health issues, trauma and homelessness.
We are just one second grade class out of four.
Saying our school is one of the biggest, urban, public schools in the city is a truth! We are focused on hands-on learning. This year, the plan is to help students consciously regulate their own actions.
My Project
I would like to have supplies for recess and unstructured play when students are outdoors. Students need the outlet. All day they are told to sit in a desk and to keep voices down. The two recess breaks my students are allotted each day allows for unstructured play with lots of socializing.
There is never enough playground equipment.
I would love to have a supply bag filled with rubber balls, basketballs, footballs, jump ropes, bubble making supplies and other activities. Students will have an abundance of choices for outdoor exercise and play. With enough equipment, I believe altercations and inappropriate behaviors will stop. Students will be able to be physically active and get a brain break.
