Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a large urban public elementary school with over 900 students. My 22 hardworking 5th graders are bilingual and low-income students. All of my students qualify for free/reduced-price lunch and many of my students' families struggle to provide them with the necessary school supplies for the year.
Energetic, excited, positively charged and motivated are the best way to describe these kiddos.
Whether they're working independently or cooperatively, they're giving it their all. They know how important education is and it shows. They deserve every opportunity in life and it is my goal to give them the tools necessary to achieve these goals.
My Project
Our district is blessed with one to one Chromebooks. This allows me to tailor my students' instruction based on their needs. Personalized learning is a huge component of our school and these programs will allow me to dive even deeper.
These programs have endless possibilities and are extremely interactive.
Nearpod allows me to take the students on virtual field trips, embed videos into my lessons, give interactive quizzes and access thousands of lesson ideas to keep the students excited about learning. I can send specific lessons to specific students to target their needs directly.
Flocabulary is a unique website. They have created engaging videos explaining thousands of topics for students. Using catchy songs and raps, Flocabulary gives students an alternate way to access the information.
Lastly, I have included 8 headphones to replace a few of ours that have seen better days. These headphones have microphones attached which will allow students to work on their speaking skills as well as giving them a way to create background-noise-free recordings on our green screen projects!
