Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am the high school librarian of a large urban 9-12 secondary school in California. I work with students from every point on the spectrum... I have students who love reading, hanging out at the library, engaging in their world, thinking critically, imagining, creating, and learning. I also have students who have not quite discovered the magic of reading yet. It is my hope that by purchasing some contemporary popular fiction and compelling non fiction, I will inspire even more students to visit the library. It is also my hope that students who are already fans of the library will be in a position to find even more treasures. I hope to help all of my students succeed and transform even the most reluctant of the bunch into a reader!
My Project
One of the best ways to help students master critical thinking and literacy skills, improve their academic skills, augment their intelligence, gain access to their imagination more readily, and fill their minds with rich story and language is to encourage recreational reading. And the only way to be successful at this is to offer them compelling books they want to read and are capable of reading.
Therefore, I want to continue to stock my school library with books that will lure my students in and that will be robust competitors to Netflix, video games, Instagram, TikTok and all the other distractions that have poisoned our modern lives.
