I teach all science subjects(biology, chemistry, physics, environmental science and anatomy)to grades 9-12 at a small charter school in a high-need community.

In almost every science subject, a heat source is a necessary component of experiments. My classroom lacks anything that can heat up a substance, and this lack of a visual medium for my students is affecting their ability to grasp important concepts, especially in my thermodynamics unit in physics.

Adding hot plates to the resources in my classroom will greatly improve their understanding of science concepts. Being able to see condensation and evaporation occur instead of just seeing pictures, or being able to see a liquid turn from a solid to a liquid to gas or being able to see currents in a heated liquid would add a whole new dimension to the way they understand how the world works.

This request is simple, but your donation will result in so much more than seven hot plates. It will give my students a greater understanding of science and more importantly, will give them a visual medium for observing the basic concepts of thermodynamics. These hotplates will also lead to opportunities for more complex experiments. Perhaps of the most significance, your donation will show my students that there are people all over the country that want them to have great opportunities to learn. Please help me make my classroom into a better learning environment for all my students by funding this request.
