Do you know that child who goes to pull out a book and EVERYTHING in his or her desk comes out in one landslide? This year I have several landslides per day and seat sacks would help to alleviate and organize my little hikers!
My 500 student NJ elementary school is primarily blue collar, hard working, and just getting by.
Parents are involved in our very active PTA and school functions and students don't like when their K-4 years are over and they have to transition to the 5-6 school. All of our teachers go above and beyond to support all of our students academically, socially, and emotionally. Our principal goes above and beyond constantly dipping into his own pocket to supplement families with groceries, clothing, etc. Our school is truly a family.
My Project
After co-teaching a 2nd grade inclusion class for two years, I am on my own this year with nearly half of my class needing Basic Skills for reading and math. Throw in some ADD and it can be a recipe for disaster when the student is fighting his or her own disorganization on top of that. Another teacher was kind enough to loan me an extra seat sack, and wow did that help with my most disorganized student.
Many of my children are from one parent homes, on free and reduced lunch, and with so much on their plate, organization is low on their list of concerns. I buy so much out of pocket, but this order is a little too tall for even me. If I had a seat sack for each child, I know it would help to organize them better and allow more time for instruction and less time stopping to help them find the right materials in their desks. My kids will learn that "There's a place for everything and everything in its place!"
I would love to help put a little organization into each of my students' lives!
What a great way to teach that the simpleness of being prepared is finding what you need quickly and easily and being ready to learn!
