My Students

My students are a gift. With the different backgrounds, cultures, and personalities, my classroom is a unique family of its own. It is a classroom full of dedicated learners who support and protect one another. These students are full of amazing thoughts and ideas that deserve to be heard.

This is a community that has been highly impacted by poverty.

This being said, the lack of materials is a road block to these students' success. It is our job to do more, and I want to provide these students with engaging tools and classroom materials that create a sense of "home" while they are at school five of the seven days of the week and also allow them to dive into their learning.

The word "poverty" does not define anyone. These students and these families are not defined by that. I've never come across a group of students so involved and excited to learn. They are strong, brave, and courageous. These are students who are capable of changing this world. These are students willing to work to make a difference. It starts here.

My Project

The materials I have selected for our classroom project focus on classroom organization, decoration and simple material to help student engagement. We need need a calendar math program along with pocket charts, supply caddies and write and wipe boards. A decorative and organized environment will help supports a healthy and successful place for students to learn.

I am a strong believer that the environment is the first step in the road to productive learning.

With these materials, I will have the right material in order to set up a classroom that allows just that. I will be able to use the pocket charts to display literature lessons and weekly vocabulary words. I will also use them for displaying groupings for mathematics and literature groups. The magnetic sentence strips will be used for writing lessons. I will use them for sentence structure modeling. The carpet will be used for morning meeting material and discussion. The math calendar board will also be a material used for morning meeting. We will go over the calendar and work day by day on math routines using this math calendar board. It will help lead into math talk. The supply caddies will be used for material holders for small group desks. I make sure to provide supplies for my students in order for them to all have equal access to materials. Using the caddies will help me do just that. Last, the math boards will be kept in every student desk. These will be easy access for math mini lessons in order for students to practice and show their work and knowledge, allowing them to work through problems as well as be assessed.

I will have a very visual classroom which I am confident will lead to a more engaging learning environment for each and every student.
