As students in low income/single-parent family homes, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. To combat the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. The students in my room like to move; they love to read and need a lot of positive attention.
Many are students with a range of disabilities, emotional disturbance, and specific learning disabilities.
These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may deprive them of life experiences many of us see as “typical.” From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however I can certainly control their experiences during the school day. By doing this in a creative way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
My classroom is asking for a Store-It-All Wall Unit. We need a place to be able to store children’s personal belongings without them touching other students possessions. We are also asking for a dollhouse with soft furniture. This specific dollhouse will improve the children’s fine motor grasp as they manipulate the dollhouse furniture. We also need soft and safe dolls to represent the diverse children in our classroom. Lastly, we need two cots for the children to rest on. Our current ones are broken and we need to replace them. With your help we will be able to provide an organized and fun classroom for all the children.
