I am a teacher at a Title 1 school just outside of Waco, Texas. Our students come from all different backgrounds, all races and all ability levels. Everyone is welcome in our class, including students with disabilities, immigrants from all over the globe and English Language Learners.
It is amazing how each and every student can be successful when given the opportunity to grown and learn!
My students are dedicated, unique and kind, so it is my goal to give them every opportunity that I can to make them successful. I want to instill in them a love of learning that they can take with them when they leave my classroom.
My Project
My campus implements AVID, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. AVID is a college readiness program that inspires them to take control of their learning and be successful.
A big component of AVID is organization.
Organization helps students stay in a routine. Knowing where everything goes and where to find it creates a positive, clean and organized learning environment.
I serve two classes of students, which varies from 38-42 children. However, I only have one set of cubbies in my classroom for students to store the necessary materials for my class. Each individual cubby is shared by two students.
I have asked for storage bins for my cubbies to help keep the students' learning materials separate, organized and always in the same place. This will allow the materials to be easily and quickly accessible, which in turn maximizes learning time in my classroom.
I have also asked for pencil pouches for my students to keep their materials in. This will help ensure that their supplies are kept together and not scattered throughout my classroom. It will also allow them to be responsible for their own items.
Additionally, I have asked for an iPad charging station. I am fortunate enough to currently have 7 iPads. However, these do not have a proper storage place. I have chargers throughout my room and iPads scattered around so they can charge. A charging station would not only keep the technology safe, but we would be able to have it all in one organized, specific location.
