This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

About My Students

This is my first year as director of high school musical, but I have known Anne, Maria, Mike and Juan since middle school. I am very excited to have wonderful students in my drama class and musical.

Musicals are so much fun! They require tremendous dedication and work from the actors, singers, dancers, musicians, crew and directors. From script management and updates to fundraising with cupcakes and face painting there are many things that will help make it a success. Many of my members are familiar with what we need to help keep us organized, up-to-date, fed and fundraising. They suggested posting this project, since other teachers at the school have used it.

Theater productions require students to work long hours to learn lines, musical numbers and dances while balancing their academics. They are events that require extensive teamwork and collaboration. They also allow students to gain empathy for their fellow performers. Helping each other successfully perform allows them to synthesize many areas of learning. Integrating all the aspects gives them practice solving many different problems, whether it be memorizing lines, dances or solving set issues. While those problems may not be real-life, they give them practice coordinating many areas that can later be applied to real-life problems. From initial planning, fundraising and managing logistics, being a part of a musical gives students lots of practice.

In Their Own Words

Our goal is to have the best musical possible! At this point the exact one is still a secret. We want to start getting the materials we need to learn our scripts and music, fund raise and learn more about musicals.

Most of us have been in many productions and know neatly bound scripts, post its, highlighter and pencils will help keep us organized and in step with each other. CDs let us record music numbers to rehearse. Raising funds is an ongoing issue. Not only will this project help, but the cash box and cup cake holders provide addition resources. Not to mention during tech week, cupcakes are a great snack. Seeing how professional theater companies have performed gives us ideas to improve our ours.

Musical are a chance for drama, music, dance and stagecraft classes to perform. In addition they bring the school and community together for the three nights we have performances. We are excited and want to have a great show!
