Do you remember that sense of accomplishment you felt when you started to understand how and why natural phenomena occur? This is what I'm trying to bring to my anatomy and physiology students - the wonder and appreciation that comes from understanding how the human body works. We live in a smaller city, however, so it can be difficult to earmark funds that would allow me to bring the world of A&P alive and literally put it in their hands to explore.
My students are so excited to dive into this new course and I want to make it the most rewarding learning experience possible, so when they look at the human form, it's with eyes that appreciate the beautiful complexity and balance that keeps us alive.
My Project
Once my students master the skeletal system, it's time to understand how the skeleton moves - and that means muscle! Providing them a way to visualize where the different muscles are located and how they attach to the skeleton will greatly increase their comprehension and mastery.
These hands-on manipulatives will allow my students to create strong concrete connections to the inner workings of their own body.
The mini human musculature model provides a clear overview of how all the muscles are arranged - to the whole body as well as to each other - and the individual joint models demonstrate the physics of how muscles pull on bones for movement. The poster of ligament attachments will help tie together the skeletal unit with the musculature unit and create a more engaging learning environment for my students.
