My students need play equipment, like playballs, balance boards and hoops, that will help build their large motor skills and promote physical fitness, social skills, and sportsmanship.
Today's students spend a vast majority of their home time on the computer, watching TV, and playing video games. Students need to learn how to play and work together as well as receive adequate amounts of physical activity. Teachers have to be willing to develop the body and mind of each student.
I teach in an inner-city Title I school in Indiana.
I currently have 23 Kindergarten English Language Learners. Many come to my classroom never having any type of school experience. Others come from countries where they literally have had to run for their lives to reach a safe haven free from violence, persecution, and horror. Most have little or no English Language skills, but by the end of the school year, are expected to read, write, and have mastered all of the Kindergarten standards. This is quite the challenge, but I take it on willingly. Nothing is more satisfying than to witness these students blossom not only in their English skills, but in social, emotional, and physical areas as well.
My Project
The physical education equipment that I am requesting will give my students many hours of fun and learning whether we are outside on the playground, across the street at the park, or in our gymnasium. They will have the opportunity to play and learn from each other, and to learn how to be good sports and use teamwork. Studies continue to demonstrate that students who have the opportunity to be physically active and play with one another are better equipped to learn.
This equipment will not only offer students many opportunities in free play, but will allow me to create structured play as well. When students realize that learning and working together can be fun, they come to school eager to learn and develop a motivation to do their very best.
I believe that my responsibility is to develop the "whole" student" - mind, body, and spirit.
This project will play a vital part in developing and maintaining social skills, physical fitness, sportsmanship, and teamwork. Students love any chance to move, play, and have fun but unfortunately, many students don't get these opportunities in their homes anymore. Please help me accomplish the goals I have for my students in this area. Together we can create healthy, happy, and motivated learners
