Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Let's get moving! My students are in need of Physical Education equipment to further their skills in physical education. It is a state law that children receive 100 minutes of Physical Education per a 10 day period in school. Wouldn't it be fun to play with a parachute, or learn to hula-hoop?
I teach in a public school where over 1000 students attend.
My class is a Special Day Class, where students are in need of equipment to have fun while learning hand eye coordination and balance. There are 14 students in my first and second grade Mild/Moderate Classroom. Their disabilities include Hard of Hearing, Specific Learning Disability and Speech and Language Disability. However, we integrate with the general population during recess lunch and physical Education. Some students need to work on hand eye coordination and others need to work on balance. It would be fun to integrate with a general education class to work on these specific skills.
My Project
I am requesting a parachute big enough for the whole class to use and enough hula-hoops so each student in my class can have fun while exercising and getting fit. My plan is to have an integrated Physical Education period with the General Education population. In this way the students will have role models to follow. I intend this also to be a avenue to teach students how to communicate with their peers as well as a time where they are working on coordination and balance and, of course to have some FUN!
What a better way improve your balance and coordination, than to have fun and exciting equipment to play with!!
Research shows that kids who are physically fit, learn better in the classroom. I expect to not only see a difference in coordination and balance, but also academics as well.
