My little ones are very inquisitive and eager learners. They gravitate easily to anything that is new and exciting. For a great majority of my students, this is their first time in school or being in a structured environment away from home for an extended period of time. I want them to develop friendships and relationships with their other classmates. I want my students to know that they are safe and in a positive nurturing environment.
I hope to guide and prepare my students to "think out of the box" to solve questions that may encounter.
I want them to become the best at whatever they want to be. I want to prepare them for the 21st century. My desire for them is to be lifelong learners who can express their needs and wants effectively and to get along with others who are different from them. I want them to think globally and to be empathetic.
My goals and objectives for my Pre-Kindergarten students are varied yet crucial in their development as life-long learners. Their social and emotional development is learned at a very early age like learning to play cooperatively, following directions, developing imagination and expressing artistic creativity through movement, song and dance. Their reading and math readiness is shaped as well through rote counting 1-100, identifying shapes, letters and colors. Their understanding and awareness is learned by knowing the days of the week, months of the year, body parts, left and right and other prepositions. Their fine and gross motor skills are honed as well like finger snapping, clapping, holding hand, jumping, leaping, skipping and crossing hemispheres for brain development. These are my intentions as an educator.
With your support with a Sony Boombox and Dr Jean's dual language CD, my students will less anxiety and more success.
Most of my students have never had the opportunity to learn in a structured setting like a classroom. Some have been to daycare but most have come straight from home. Like most three and four year olds, they feel lost, afraid and confused. That is when the tears flow. But when they dance and sing, it seems like the anxiety melts away and they begin to like school and get excited to come each day. They create friendships and are around different people in different settings. They become more well rounded and adjust better and can cope with change. Parents have commented about their children singing songs they've learned and how they talk more and are more expressive in their speech. I am a firm believer of movement and music in learning. The best way is to learn kinesthetically.
