Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a special education teacher and I work with 6th-8th grade students in Las Vegas, Nevada. My students all have some type of disability such as autism, a learning disability or a health impairment. My students work hard to be successful in their classes.
Often, students with disabilities struggle to stay active and tend to over eat, eat unhealthy foods, and gain weight.
These students need incentives to get them moving and eating healthy. Teachers can help boost a child's attention span, concentration, and memory by providing breakfast foods that are rich in whole grains, fiber, and protein, as well as low in added sugar. This project would increase engagement and help students stay more focused during our learning sessions. This also supports social and emotional learning by keeping students actively involved. These incentives can be used to facilitate an active lifestyle by purchasing games, exercise equipment and even a few smart watches to get them excited about exercise. There are many amazing products to get them excited about living a healthy lifestyle.
My Project
My specal needs students need to understand fitness and how their body is affected by diet and exercise. We exercise together and I want them to see data about their exercise. I chose Apple watches because our school is an iPad school and we can send their information to their personal iPad. They are fascinated by my Apple watch and often ask to wear it. By getting a couple of good Apple watches, our class can share them as we exercise. They will be excited to view the results of their hard work!
