Our students are enthusiastic and ready to explore music through movement and instruments. They love to ask questions and create.
Our school is a small, neighborhood school where many children attend from Kindergarten all the way through 5th grade.
Recently we began piloting a mastery approach that has been really exciting. Students work at their own level and progress at their own rate.
Our students are ready to take on more responsibility and take ownership of their learning. We are excited to provide the tools they want and the support they need to succeed.
My Project
My youngest students explore through free play and some guided explorations of musical opposites - high/low, long/short, fast/slow, smooth/choppy. We take this sound and movement vocabulary and add it to recorded music with our props.
As students progress, they transition from teacher-guided explorations and suggestions to student-created projects and compositions.
They will create rhythmic patterns to add to songs they have learned, and movement sequences to add to the story or feeling of a performance.
After many years and hundreds of students using the instruments and props, it is time to renew our music room resources so students have what they need. They will be so grateful to have enough scarves, ribbons and shakers to learn and create with.
