Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach at an all boys school, where I can focus on meeting the needs of these urban young men in a way that works best for them. The school is kindergarten through 8th grade. Teachers are able to focus on learning strategies that are rigorous, engaging, and researched based for our young men.

My students are passionate about everything they do!

Whether it's playing football at recess, learning their multiplication facts, or finding books that are relevant to them, they are ready to succeed whatever they invest their time in. All of my students have passed the 3rd grade readiness test. Your help in donating to our project will help my students reach their goals this year and realize that their future dreams can be a reality.

My Project

As a teacher, we want to inspire our students to read. I have tons of classroom books that are available for my students; however, since I teach at an all boys school, the motivation to read is a huge obstacle in my classroom. My students struggle with reading, and will do ANYTHING to get out of reading.

With access to tablets, I will be able to motivate my reluctant readers by using what they love (technology) to access reading material.

I plan to use the free ebooks app, Hoopla, to open another way for them to experience reading. This is available though our local library systems.
