Help me give my students 20 copies of Lord of the Flies and The Phantom Tollbooth. These books are classics that my students will enjoy and return for another chapter!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are tenacious and I admire them greatly for that character trait. Many of them are responsible for the care of their siblings or hold jobs to help pay bills or put food on the table. At our school, 98% of the students are labeled at-risk. They have more life responsibility than I did when I was their age. Despite these challenges, when presented with new experiences, new concepts, or new activities, they throw themselves into the learning.
They are the real-life embodiment of Ms. Frizzle’s famous “Take Chances.
Make Mistakes. Get Messy!”
My goal is to have them promoted from 8th grade to the high school, with not only the memories of the activities we worked on but also the meaningful conversations we had. It is important that they are aware that no matter where they end up, they will have the skills needed to succeed. I want my students to not only grow as learners but become students who can collaborate, problem-solve, and persevere. The skills they acquire will be transferable regardless of what challenges they may face next.
I strongly believe, with your help, my students can become successful citizens in their community.
My Project
On our campus, students participate in a reading hour. The books we have available are limited and typically, we read something that they have read before. They crave something other than Hunger Games or Harry Potter. It is my goal to expose my students to some classics stories. Stories that we can find a connection to their lives. Stories that we can get them thinking differently.
My students are eager for any new experience and opening that literacy door for them will be just what they yearn for.
With your help, my students can live out new adventures without leaving the classroom.
