My Students

Were you the child who didn't learn the same way as all the other kids in your class? Were you the one who didn't get as much out of lessons as your classmates? As a first grade teacher, I want to make sure I supply as many diverse ways of learning as I possibly can!

My students are WONDERFUL.

They are smart, creative, and willing to learn every day. They are first-grade wonders, really. The first thing they say when coming through the door in the morning is, "What are we going to learn about today, Mrs. Holly!!?" We are a low-income elementary school in Tennessee. There are about 600 students in our PreK - 4 school.

My Project

A listening center would benefit all students, but especially those who tend to learn in diverse ways. Some students may learn best while listening or working independently. I hope to use these listening center headphones and junction box in many ways: as a reading center for students to follow along with audio story books; as a reading comprehension center; as a "chanting" center for students to follow along with poems and songs; and as a way to improve fluency.

This project will make a difference in the lives of all the first graders in my class now and all that will come in the future.

It will help foster learning in various forms and keep the students engaged and active in their learning.
