My students need Raz-Kids because of the variety of engaging fiction and nonfiction texts which will also hold them accountable for making progress with their reading goals.

My Students
In my first grade classroom, students come in from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Two-thirds of my students come from families which speak another language at home. We have first graders fluent in six different languages and born in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the United States! Many of my students also come from families experiencing poverty. However, they love coming to school, and they love being with each other.
Many of my students have limited English or are coming to school to experience learning English for the very first time as newcomers to America.
All of my students are active learners who need engaging and captivating reading resources. They enjoy being read to and appreciate self-guided reading tools that enable them to be independent and see their own progress.
My Project
A subscription to RAZ-Kids will continue to enhance the literacy rich environment that I work hard to create. At my school, we have a 1:1 ratio for iPads to students which enables them to learn through technology. As part of our literacy block each day, students read independently with their book box and also have time to explore reading through approved reading apps.
Raz-Kids is an exciting resource to incorporate into the Daily 5 routine of Listen to Reading.
Within Raz-Kids, students can read both fiction and nonfiction digital texts and then complete a quiz to check for understanding. It also provides students the option to have the text read to them or for them to read independently. As a teacher, I can track their progress and use the online tool to change reading levels as students' reading levels improve.
