My students are spectacular kids. I only want the best for them. I have started to create a historical fiction library in my classroom. through the use of students surveys and Project Based Learning, I have found that the student's interests lean more towards The World Wars, and Modern Non-Western History.
I want to be able to feed their interests and provide them with literature to go along with their units of study.
It is so wonderful to see a student put down a cell phone, pick up a book and be totally engrossed in it.
I spend a lot of time finding appropriate titles and content for my students ages and abilities. I always want them to read books that not only interest them but also challenges them. The best moments are when you connect the right student with the right book. It is almost magical.
My Project
Please help my students become "Historically Lit!" These books will help my students learn about different eras in history. But, they will also allow them to be able to see themselves in those stories. Being able to identify with characters and settings helps students make connections with the literature and makes the book more than just an assignment to complete; but a journey to enjoy.
Learning to love reading is a journey that should continue throughout a lifetime.
Giving students the gift of reading whether in a traditional book or a graphic novel opens doors to them and how they view the world. I want my student's world to be big, bright, and full of opportunity.
