My students need hands on activities to help make learning how to read more exciting and engaging such as word building, comprehension, letter recognition, sight word memorization, creative writing, phonics and phonological awareness.
What I love about my students is their love for learning. They are so eager to learn and want to get their hands on things while doing it. My favorite part about my students is when they LOVE to come to school. That tells me something is going right in my classroom. This past year in my classroom I did a couple of room transformations such as “going to the moon” and “camp read-a-lot”. The students had so much fun and learned while they played, but didn’t even realize it. They told me on both days “this is the best day ever”! I realize not every day in the classroom will be like that, but I want to keep that eagerness and excitement to come to school. My students are incredible and I love to offer new, fun and engaging ways for them to learn.
My Project
These items and activities will be critical components in teaching my kindergarten students how to read and write. I know exactly what I will be doing with each one of these games/activities. They already have a home in my classroom we just need your help in getting the items through our door! Most importantly, it will be hands on and engaging for my students. All of these activities cover everything from sight words, comprehension, letter recognition, phonemic awareness, phonological awareness and writing skills. I would love to have these in my classroom to offer to my students instead of your typical worksheet or games/activities that have been worn out that I currently have. With these activities my students will learn academics, but they will also learn how to work sufficiently independently and work in partners and groups while building their relationships with one another and building “teamwork” attributes in their self. Lastly, it makes learning FUN! Thank you for taking the time to read about my project. I know these activities will help serve every type of learner in my classroom.
