Mrs. Vera from Jamaica NY is requesting lab equipment through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students the GrowLED Indoor Garden! We will raise our own plants from seeds inside our classroom with no windows. Then we will move our plants to our community outdoor garden in the spring.

My students are an awesome crew! They love our school and come in every day with smiles. We have established a caring community both school-wide and in our classroom.
As a new school, we are just getting started and need additional resources, materials, and technology.
We service a large percentage of students receiving special education services and many of our students are living in poverty. Our students would greatly benefit from technology and materials to connect with and enhance our curriculum.
My students will be so excited to learn about how plants grow from seeds into flowers. We will start the seeds in our classroom using the GrowLED system and African marigold seeds. Students will learn hands on by planting their own seed and then making observations and decisions on how to best care for them. When the plants are ready, we will transplant them to our outdoor community garden at the front entrance of our school. Here my students will tend to and care for a larger garden, including herbs, flowers, and vegetables.
Our plants and garden will inspire all students and families who pass by and help create a beautiful community!
Inside our starter garden will adorn our classroom library. After outdoor transplant, our marigolds will not only add aesthetic appeal but they will help repel certain insects that are harmful to other plants. Our garden will be watered and weeded daily by my students and they will gain confidence and experience in gardening and acquire knowledge and skills they will use their entire lives. Your contribution will get more than the plants growing!
