The site of our former elementary school was an iconic building in the downtown community. However, in 2013, it was deemed unusable from an architectural standpoint. In 2019, our school was rebuilt from the ground up, turning it into one of the most beautiful schools in all of the state. We boast some of the best views in Helena.
Building relationships with my students is the number one goal.
This year, we have had to make some drastic adjustments to our teaching and the way our students are in the building.
My goal is to provide as many engaging opportunities and activities for my students. With your help, I can continue to give my students the best education they can get!
My Project
I have started an initiative in my classroom that I am going to read with all of my students 1 on 1 every week. My student's and I found books that we felt were good fits during our time. With the length of some of the books we have chosen, I was worried that I would lose some of their focus because of the length of the stories.
I want to build a library with classic books that have been adapted into graphic novels.
Graphic novels are great for "reluctant readers" and kids just learning to read. They're generally fast-paced, and the word-to-picture correlation provides an easy way to expand children's vocabularies. Perhaps more importantly, graphic novels tend to be more engaging than other "early reader" books. Another plus: the number of titles is expanding rapidly every year, so there's something for every child's interests. Last, but not least, graphic novels positively impact children’s visual literacy skills, which are more essential than ever in the digital age.
Graphic novels have really become popular and a lot of classic stories are being adapted into a graphic novel version.
