I love every one of my third-grade students! Each one of them is a unique and special individual. They work hard every day and try to accomplish everything that is asked of them.
Third grade is a crucial year for students because they begin to transition from learning to read to reading to learn.
A great classroom library full of high-interest books is absolutely necessary to give students access to a variety of independent level reading material. I have close to 1,000 books in my classroom library, but many of my books were purchased used or donated, and are becoming very worn and battered, and honestly, some are outdated.
Most of my students love to read, but I need to be able to inspire a love for reading in the ones who don't love to read.
My Project
These books will help me encourage my reluctant readers to build their independent reading stamina, and learn to enjoy reading. Third grade is a very important year where students must transition from learning to read to reading to learn. An important part of this transition is building independent reading skills.
Graphic novels are a great way to interest students, especially reluctant boys, and all of my students enjoy these types of books.
I love to read aloud to my students and then watch as they choose similar books to read on their own. These books will give a pick-me-up to my classroom library and help inspire a life-long love of reading in my students.
