Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in the best school in Miami-Dade, with the hardest working and most dedicated students. My fifth grade students all come from diverse backgrounds and range from ELL learners to students with learning disabilities. Most of these students suffer from attention deficit disorder and require assistance in learning new procedures and lack problem solving skills. They often struggle with staying on task for extended periods of time. Our community is composed of hard-working families that wish to provide their children with the best education possible.
My classroom is a true representation of the melting pot of cultures we have in South Florida, and I want my classroom to feel like a welcome and safe place to learn.
At our school, we strive to contribute to the child as a whole and foster creativity in every classroom. Our motto is that Readers are Achievers and Achievers are Believers, and we truly believe we are raising a better tomorrow one student at a time.
My Project
Helping my students become the best readers and writers is my ultimate goal. These two subjects, however, can often be the most challenging for students with ADHD since it requires sustained mental effort. These wobble stools, balance balls and ottomans will help maintain focus and attention during long reads and allow students an outlet for their energy.
Putting a little flexibility into our reading instruction will allow students to immerse themselves in the world of books.
In addition, the Fire tablets will help students stay focused on individualized assignments during small group instruction. Leveled resources for our reading curriculum are mostly online so these Fire Tablets will allow quick access to leveled readers and digital assignments during small group instruction.
