Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom environment is very welcoming and engaging for all the students in my class. Something I like to do in my classroom to encourage their independence is to give them an abundance choices! I would like to raise money for some flexible seating options in my classroom to help give students more options to move around the room throughout the school day. I am a firm believer that students should not sit in a chair all day... they need the freedom to get up and move and work around the room!
My students are diverse in a multitude of ways and I love to embrace that diversity in the classroom!
In addition to racial and ethnic diversity, the students in this community are unique in that 87% of the students come from low-income families and 44% of the students are English Learners. I would like to provide these students with everything I possibly can to give them the best learning experience possible, and your generous donation will help!
My Project
These flexible seating options will be great for student learning because it will allow students to comfortably sit throughout the room in a seating of their choice. Learning to make the right choices is a huge part of Kindergarten! It gives students the opportunity to start making choices they like and to not be stuck in a chair all day.
Students will use the carpet during carpet time and mini-lessons.
The dots on the carpet will teach the students appropriate boundaries between one another. The wobble seats, wobble cushions, and stools will be used daily by students. Each day when they walk in the classroom they will get to choose the style of seating they would like to use for the day. This also teaches them responsibility and safety because they have to be responsible enough to use the different type of seating. These flexible seating options are also great for helping to develop core strength!
After a year of trying out different flexible seating options for my kiddos, I have concluded that these choices are the most liked by my students and they are the most durable, which will be used by many different students for years to come!
