I have some of the hardest working students in the world. They give 100% have great attendance and maintain a positive view of the world. They also deal with many challenges.
Our neighborhood is one of the toughest in the city with crime and poverty threatening to undermine their good work at every turn.
In spite of all of these challenges they persevere. They still maintain their childhood wonder, their ideals and passion for life.
It has always been my goal to give my students all that they deserve and with your help they will continue to flourish.
My students need wobble chairs and Vidget chairs. We don't have imagine how hard it is to stay in a hard seat with a possibly over or undersized desk in front of us for hours on end, most of us lived this throughout our elementary and high school education. Because I remember this horror and have done extensive research, this year I am moving my classroom to a more “cafe style” flexible seating arrangement. This will consist of standing desks, circle tables for collaboration, modular seats and lap desks. This will be an ongoing endeavor, but this fundraiser will help get my 5th grade class on its way with some new chairs!
Allowing for choice in the classroom increases student buy in, adds to student comfort, limits distractions, and helps to eliminate behavior issues.
As we know students all learn in different ways. Even as adults we know that our seating during work time can contribute to a productive session or a fidgety day where you just can not get anything done. This is why seat choice is so important. It enhances the learning.
