The students in my classroom come from low socioeconomic status and diverse backgrounds. OES is a Title 1 school because of its high level of poverty. Eighty percent of the students receive free or reduced price lunch. Each student comes to my classroom with different background knowledge and experience that they connect to their learning. They bring their own individuality to the classroom and each one learns in a different way.
My students are in charge of their own success and learning.
For my students to be exposed to the most comfortable and engaging learning environment, they need to feel like they are a part of a classroom community where they can be successful. To accomplish this, students are given the chance to take responsibility for their learning into their own hands.
My Project
These materials will make a huge difference with my students. Currently, students come to school each day and choose a seat that will work best for them for that day. They have multiple, flexible options around the room where they can sit. Currently we have three bar stools in our classroom and this is a popular place to work! Students love the option of sitting up high or taking a standing break in the middle of a long lesson. This flexible seating option will also allow students to collaborate easily with their classmates during workshop rotations and group assignments.
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning in the classroom.
The wobble stools will help students who struggle to stay focused on the lesson by giving them a little bit of movement that will not distract the rest of the class. These types of seats will help with the overall success rate of each individual student in my class because it will meet their individual needs and styles of learning.
