Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students walk into the classroom full of life every day, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. Each day we tell ourselves, We are kind. We are smart. We are important. We celebrate our mistakes because we know making mistakes "makes our brains grow" My students see themselves as readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, sociologists and artists.
I teach at an elementary school where 60 % of our students get free and reduced lunch.
A lot of their parents did not graduated from high school and speak another language other than English.
My Project
We're so glad you decided to take a look into this effort to introduce technology and reading to us. We don't have a computer lab at our school or computers in our classroom. We are learning so much and technology is big part of that.
We are eager to discover the power of technology and how it can help us to become better readers.
We will use the Kindle Fires to create individual listening to reading centers which will be used during our small group instructional reading time. We will listen to stories and answer comprehension questions using the Raz-Kids application. The others readers will be reading with someone or sitting at the reading table with our teacher practicing and learning about reading.
We need help! Our parents can't help us. It's not their faults. They too busy working to pay the rent.
Can you, the wonderful people of Donors Choose help us get fired up about reading?
