Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"To see the world through a child's eyes".... There's nothing more beautiful than that sparkle in my students' eyes when it's Lab Time! We are about to begin our new unit on energy, but my science kits have been depleted. I have no supplies for proper labs for my students.
My amazing 4th-grade scientists attend a public school in Florida.
This year's group is very active and energetic, and I need to keep their attention through hands-on and fun activities. Many of them were born in Cuba, and they are just acquiring the English language. A few others have been retained in previous years and are low-performing. We are a Title I school.
My Project
Our Energy unit will be starting soon, and I have no supplies in my science kits to conduct our labs. Since many of my students are just learning the English language, having concrete, hands-on materials will help them with vocabulary. Having these labs full of materials will also help my low-performing students to succeed, where normally they are not used to succeeding.
We are a STEM school and the kits donated by you will also incorporate a math and engineering component. They will be building different types of bridges and using them for the Force and Motion chapter. Who knows? Maybe the engineering part will have some students desiring to become engineers in the future.
I'm very excited to expose my students to simple machines. One of the kits has the supplies needed to build them. My students can gain pride and self-esteem through these wonderful labs that allow their creativity to run wild!
If I get these kits and supplies for my students, the possibilities will be endless for them!
My students are so bright and hard-working that I have no doubt they will leave my class with more love for science than when they came in. I want them to love school and enjoy coming every day because they know that there will be a lot of learning going on in a very fun way!
