Help me give my students resources to learn about their social and emotional behaviors. With plenty of books and examples, they will then be able to use the timers, fidgets, games, and mirrors to calm down.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our classroom is made up of 17 Preschool students that come into the classroom with smiles on their faces ready to learn and interact with their friends and teachers. They enjoy learning about the world around them.
Our school is made up of 800 Preschool and Kindergarten students who receive free breakfast and lunch daily.
Many of our students face challenges both in school and at home. Our classroom provides the structure they need so they can learn social and academic skills.
My Project
The most important thing I can teach my Pre K students is how to regulate themselves socially and emotionally. Once they can do that, they can learn anything. Often times, the social emotional piece for students is what gets in the way of their learning.
I want to give them the skills they need to be successful for the rest of their lives.
We will read different stories and discuss what the characters were feeling and what they did with those emotions. We will then practice calm down strategies while we are calm, so when we are in the middle of an upset, we will understand how the teacher is trying to guide us through it.
