Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students go to a school that is low-income/high-poverty. They eat breakfast, lunch, and often dinner at school. Although they love to read, write, and make art, they often lack the essential materials.
About 85% of the students in my class are English learners.
They love to read, write and create works of art, but they attend a school with very limited resources.
The students have often gotten to my class without ever having read a book, had their own notebook, or used paint and colors to create art.
My Project
These brass escutcheon five-eighths inch sized pins allow each of my students to create the most incredible string art. After sanding and painting their plywood squares, each student will use their T Square to draw a one-centimeter square grid throughout their entire plywood board. After choosing their preferred string art design, they will hammer escutcheon pins into their boards to create their string art design in nails.
Each student will get between three hundred and six hundred brass escutcheon pins to hammer into their board to create the design they will use to string their design.
Each nail will be meticulously nailed half a centimeter from each other one to make the string art design they have chosen.
After nailing each of the escutcheon pins to make their magnificent designs, each student will use the colorful crochet strings of their choice to make their string art design come to life. The escutcheon pins are essential to this string art project, they are literally the part that is hammered into the board and are the anchors for each of the strings for stringing the design.
