Let's Get Cozy: Library Seating for Middle School Readers

My Students
My talented middle school students are from the far southeast side of Chicago. My students love to read and to explore the world around them. We read for enjoyment and to become better readers, writers, and thinkers.
Our classroom serves as an oasis to explore, create, and share.
It is a space that fosters a love of reading and wonder. My students' enthusiasm for learning is contagious. Through high interest literature, collaborative conversations, and student-driven instruction, my students are rockin' it in our middle school literacy classroom.
My Project
Independent reading and book talks are sacred part of our literacy block. Students are engaged in collaborative conversations, shared/partner reading, and are developing their reading identity when selecting good fit books. Students will use the seating daily during independent reading time in which students have the choice to sit where ever they'd like to read and reflect on their reading. Seats can stay in the library or be easily moved to other locations around the classroom or hall.
Our library needs updated seating to replace some our current seating damaged due to wear and tear from previous years.
The two bean bag chairs will replace the two we had to retire this school year. We also retired one of our eight year old butterfly chairs so an new one is needed in it's place. The balance balls will be used on their own or serve as a replacement ball to our current balance ball chairs with back support. The seating is comfortable, supports our kinesthetic learners, and creates an inviting space to snuggle with a great book.
