My students need flexible seating that will allow them to move and get comfortable. I also added some great high interest reading comprehension materials to use in small groups with my students.
We are starting a new school year and I am looking forward to diving in! I have 24 eight and nine year old kiddos who are creative, athletic, energetic, full of ideas, and ready to move. On a normal day we are all over our classroom. My students love to sprawl out on the floor, get cozy with a good book near the window and even play games under their desks! They love having choices where they work. As their teacher I encourage them to move around the room. I know that when they are comfortable and like their environment they will learn more.
Nobody wants to sit at a desk in a hard chair all day, especially kids!
After teaching for 14 years I have never met a child who likes to sit all day. Kids need to move, sprawl out or get cozy. Whatever makes them happy and ready to learn. So let's make them cozy!
My Project
I'm really excited about this project. We use every inch of space in our classroom to learn and work. The meditation cushions and seating mats will be perfect for kids to use while working with partners and playing games on the floor. The balance balls will let them move, bounce and build strong core muscles all while learning and having fun.
Flexible seating in our classroom will give my kids the opportunity to move, make choices, and get cozy.
All this will help them concentrate more, learn more and create a classroom environment that they love and look forward to being in. The more comfortable they are physically, the more they will retain mentally. My ultimate goal is to push my students to learn more and challenge them to push themselves so that they can reach what they think is the unreachable. That begins with being comfortable and what better way to start than with flexible seating!
The reading comprehension games will be used by the students to improve their reading skills while having fun.
