My students need new supplies, clipboards, and comfortable/flexible seating for independent work. A laminator will help me provide them with personalized bookmarks to encourage them to take pride in their books and foster their love of reading!
Our students are excited about learning, and we want to channel that excitement toward their reading! Our students come from many different walks of life, and we firmly believe each and every one of them can fall in love with reading if they are given the opportunity.
At our Title I school, many children are not exposed to reading for pleasure at home, and my goal is to help create a classroom environment that changes their perceptions of reading; they will begin to see reading as a form of entertainment, and a lifelong pastime.
My Project
My students need comfortable, alternative seating to help build their love of reading. I want my students to be able to experience the comfort of curling up in a cozy spot to enter the world of their book, uninterrupted by uncomfortable desks and chairs.
Associating reading with freedom and comfort empowers students to choose to read independently.
Some students are more comfortable sitting on a floor pillow or laying on their stomach while resting their heads on a pillow. Others want to be on their backs or curled up in a bean bag. Whatever they desire, I want them to be able to do! Our new laminator will allow me to make durable, personal bookmarks and other gifts that will encourage my students to read and learn to associate reading with fun, creativity, and joy!
I want them to seek out reading opportunities and to become the type of kids who always have a book with them. Building positive associations between choice, comfort, and freedom will help them develop this goal.
